The Most Popular Types Of Logos For Your Creative Business
This week’s blog posts is a short one but super informative if you are in the logo design stage.
Before I dive into the blog I just want to clarify one main thing … your brand is not your logo.
A lot of people think of a logo when they think of branding but that’s just not the case. A logo is part of the visual aspect of your brand and shouldn’t be mistaken for being the only aspect of your brand!
P.S: I wrote a Branding 101: For Creative Entrepreneurs blog so be sure to check it out here.
Wait, are you new here? I wrote these blog posts to help you out in your biz:
So here are the most popular types of logos you can use for your business:
#1: Wordmark logo:
Does Google, Sony, and Facebook sound familiar? These companies use wordmark logos that focus on the name of the company paired with unique typography rather than symbols. Elements such as lines, boxes, and borders can be used in wordmark logos.
W/out pictures or symbols
Created from existed fonts or hand-drawn ones
Can include color
Can include a character feature for ex: one letter is bigger and bolder than the rest
Feel free to play with spacing and letter placement
#2: Symbolic logo:
Think Mcdonalds, Apple, and Twitter. This type of logo design uses an icon and symbol as an abstract representation of a business.
Symbols usually absent of text
Relatively simple form
Easy to recognize
Easily married with text (may be other versions of it with text)
Combination logos are just what they sound like, a combination between a wordmark and symbolic logo.
Features associated text
Icon designed to be strong standalone
Adjoined to text or nestled beside
May be separated depending on the design
It’s also super important to take into consideration the types of fonts you use within your logo. You can pick between Serif fonts, Sans-Serif font, script fonts, heavy script fonts, block fonts, and block font.
Of course, there are other logo and font types out there (depending on who you ask) but these are the most popular ones. I hope this quick and easy guide helps you create the best visual representation of your brand aka your logo!
