Take The Leap

 Take the Leap

When we graduate high school we find ourselves making one of the hardest decisions of our lives. One that is supposed to define who we are and what we do for the rest of our lives. In my case, there was just so much I wanted to do and be that I couldn’t quite pinpoint it just yet.  So I decided to pick the major that gave me the most options and entered as “undeclared”, which is just a fancy way of saying I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Even back then, I knew that a traditional route was not for me; I didn’t want to be stuck in a cubicle working in corporate for the rest of my life. This was 2007 so little did I know that the Internet and our digital landscape would create a career path that was made for me.

My freshman year of college the pressure to choose my career path was on and although I was still 17, I made one of the best decisions ever by majoring in Marketing. I loved how Marketing combined art, psychology, communications, design, and business into one! I then decided to put my skills to the test and landed internships as a digital marketing coordinator at a wellness clinic and then a social media/content creator for a department at my university.  This is where it all begun, I was introduced to the world of digital marketing and fell in love with it.

As always, life is full of decisions so of course I was faced with another one after graduating from college. Would I go after my passion and start my own digital marketing business or go the corporate route? For more than one reason, I chose to take the corporate route and started working for a Fortune ten company. It seemed to be the best choice, and it was at the moment, but I quickly realized that the idea of starting my own business just wouldn’t go away.

So I started taking courses, reading books, and listening to podcasts for fun after work.  This turned into a passion project but I still didn’t really know how I could make this into an actual business. Well, thanks to some well ran Facebook ad’s I came across the Bucketlist Bombshells (BB), a company dedicated to teaching women how to become creative entrepreneurs and create a life on their own terms.

Sometimes we don’t know what is possible until we see it so this was definitely a wake up call for me, it was time to put all my fears aside and go for it. If others out there were creating a life that worked for them then why couldn’t I? Being part of the BB community helped me realize I could do the marketing work I loved while bringing value to an audience that needed it.

I did learn a lot during my time in corporate and worked with great people but one thing was missing, creativity. I missed that feeling of being able to help a business reach their audience and show their value. I missed having creative freedom to create content and work one on one with clients.

I am beyond excited to now be in a position where I get to work on my business full time and help other entrepreneurs/small business owners with theirs. People start businesses for different reasons but most of the time there is one reason they all share, to be able to provide value to an audience and bring a solution to their problem. Beyond this there are other reasons like creating more flexibility in their lives, more time to travel, a sense of freedom, etc… For me it’s all of the above and I am so glad I decided to take the leap!

So if there is something you’ve wanted to do, whether is starting a new business, taking your business to the next level, learning a new language, or finally taking that trip then know that it’s not going to be easy but it’s possible. Don’t limit yourself to what you think is possible, but open yourself to other opportunities and do what you need to do to become who you know you can be.
