How You Can Cut Through The Noise And Be Heard

To do: Figure out what YOU have to say

This was literally an item on my to-do list this past weekend.

Why would someone want to follow me, read what I write, hire me, etc.. ?

I thought about this question all weekend and realized that the answer was in the question.

First of all, the actual content behind what we say and how we say it all goes back to two things:

  • Experience: You’re living life, starting a business, getting an internship, a job, working with clients, running a blog, getting hands-on experience, etc..

  • Knowledge: You went to a university, got a degree, and became knowledgeable on a subject (or skipped the university part and went straight to the source aka the Internet.

Wait, are you new here? I wrote these blog posts to help you out in your biz:

Besides being consistent with the content that you do put out there, there are two very important things you must include in your writing and messaging: #1: Personal Story & #2: Lesson your reader/audience can take away from your story. Let’s focus on #1 though because you can’t get to #2 without first delivering #1.

One is usually easier to attain than the other but I’ll let you decide which is which.

So that covers what you have to say but what about the part about people actually listening to what you have to say?

Earlier I said that:

I played around with this question all weekend and realized that the answer was in the question.

How many times did I use the word me or I?

Basically every other word.

This all simply translates to the buzzword we’ve all been hearing about for way too long now:

Personal branding

Some people think this doesn’t apply to them but if you’re trying to:

  • Build a business

  • Build influence

then this applies to you.

There are so many people and businesses doing/talking about the same things that one of the best ways to differentiate yourself is through your personal story and brand.

According to personalbrand.com this is the:

Official Definition of a Personal Brand:

A personal brand is a widely-recognized and largely-uniform perception or impression of an individual based on their experience, expertise, competencies, actions and/or achievements within a community, industry, or the marketplace at large.

The word personal and personal branding is what you’ve got to focus on because you are the only you out there and that is WHY people will listen to what you have to say.

Some people are pretty private and/or are afraid of being judged so they shy away from sharing their personal stories and that’s ok

BUT

if you want people to listen to what you have to say then I’m sorry but you’ve got to start getting a little vulnerable here.

I notice it all the time on my Instagram posts and Medium posts, whenever I open up and share part of my life, people identifying with what I have to say.

People relate to other people.

It’s honestly that simple.
