Branding 101: For Creative Entrepreneurs
When you hear the word branding do you automatically think of logos and beautiful color palettes ? If you do then I don't blame you! A logo and color palette is the most visual representation of your brand but so much goes into developing your brand even before the first logo sketch.
As a creative entrepreneur, you are your brand. Your brand is your reputation and the way people feel when interacting with you in person, over the phone, your website, social media platforms, and emails. Branding helps communicate your personality, values, and the why behind why you do what you do.
Your brand attracts the right people and repels those who wouldn't be a good fit in the first place. As business owners we sometimes want to work with everyone but when you talk to everyone then you’re talking to no one! So don't be afraid to own your brand and serve those who truly connect with your message and what you stand for.
One of the first things you need to make sure you do is knowing who your audience actually is, this should happen even before starting any of the graphic elements of your brand.
New here? I wrote these blog posts to help you out in your biz:

You need to know who you are talking to.
Are you talking to millenials living in the city with a college degree? Or is your target audience 60+ women living in the suburbs and getting ready to retire?
There is a lot more that goes into it so I actually created an in-depth “Branding Worksheet” to help you define your ideal client and your brand! You can download the free “Branding Worksheet” below.
Another super important thing to remember is that branding is a process! It’s not a set and done thing, so every day that you’re in business then your brand is living and breathing. A combination of both tangible and intangible assets make up your brand.
What do I mean by this?
Well, the tangible assets are all the visual elements that are associated with your business and yourself as your relate to your business. Think logo, favicon, alternative logo, watermark, textures, color palette, and typography.
The use of all of these visual elements help with brand cohesion and make it easy for your audience to spot you and your business from a mile away! How confusing would it be if you didn't have a set look, style, and feel but instead chose random colors, fonts, and textures?
But the graphic elements are just part of the branding process. The intangible assets are as important or even more important. This goes back to your brand values, voice, personality, and story. The way you make people feel when they interact with you/your biz is a part of your brand!
Like I said, Branding is an asset and if you ask me, it's probably one of the most important assets you have in your business. There might be a million and one businesses doing what you do but what makes your business different is the way you serve your audience. Your brand has the power to differentiate you and build a connection with your tribe!
Whether you are just starting our or have been in business for a while, I can’t stress how important branding is for your biz! So, let’s recap what Branding means for you as a creative entrepreneur:
